Non sans humour, elle nous présente une précieuse standpoint : «L’increvable soleil de los angeles médiocrité n’a pas fini de fasciner. Mais, s’il est un moyen d’y échapper, voire de le combattre, ne serait-ce pas de commencer à regarder ailleurs et autrement ?»

The only possible strategy was to go around it, pass it by, leave it behind, and thus bring into being — outside the subject, as the subject’s “wrong side” — the very thing whose negation marks out and guarantees the subject’s position. And so the countersociety is populated by good-for-nothing subjects, antisubjects: suffering and pleasured bodies for which the soul and its stakes are no more. These mechanical bodies go so far as to denounce and defy every human law, standing instead on the authority of animal reality and laying claim to unvarnished nature, with its innocence, cruelty, and irresponsibility, as the ultimate designation of subjectivity’s dismissal.

We see, then, that in order for heterogeneity (unthinkable within the order of the subject) to be granted recognizable status and articulated in the theoretical realm of classical reason, what was needed was nothing short of an outrageous countersociety (but a society nevertheless, with its own order, rules, and laws). The subject of the cogito, intangible, solidly entrenched in its position, offered no hold that might allow its foundations to be shaken or its ramparts to be cracked.
